What it can fix
What composite bonding can do for your smile
Chipped teeth
Rebuild a chipped or broken edge so the tooth looks whole again, and stop it catching the light in photos.
Gaps
Close small gaps between teeth for a more balanced smile, without braces.
Uneven or short teeth
Even out edges and lengthen teeth that look short, so your smile looks in proportion.
Worn edges
Restore teeth worn down by grinding or wear, and protect them from further damage.
Discolouration
Cover stains or dark teeth that don’t respond to whitening, for example after an old injury.
Shape and size
Reshape small, pointed or uneven teeth so they match the teeth around them.
Two treatments
Edge bonding and composite veneers
Edge bonding adds composite to part of a tooth, such as a chipped edge, a corner or the sides of a gap. It’s ideal for small, precise changes.
Composite veneers cover the whole front surface of a tooth, for bigger changes to shape and colour across your smile, at a lower cost than porcelain and with less preparation.

How we do it
Hand-sculpted or injection-moulded
For smaller cases, your clinician sculpts the composite by hand, layering shades to recreate the depth and translucency of a natural tooth.
For larger cases, such as several composite veneers, we may design your new smile digitally first and use a clear guide made from the design to mould the composite precisely into shape. Depending on your case, we can also show you a mock-up of your new smile before we start, so you know exactly what to expect.
Your treatment
Your bonding journey
Consultation
Start at a check-up or a smile makeover consultation (£50, put towards your treatment). We look at your teeth, bite and gums, and talk about what you’d like to change.
Whiten first, if you’d like
Composite doesn’t change colour with whitening, so if you want a brighter smile we usually whiten your teeth first and match the bonding to your new shade.
Design and preview
Depending on your case, we can plan your smile with a digital smile design and show you a mock-up before we start.
Your bonding appointment
We prepare the teeth, usually with just a little light shaping, then build up the composite by hand or with a guide, shade-matched to your teeth, and polish it to a natural shine. Most cases are done in one visit.
Maintenance
We see you for maintenance appointments to polish and refresh your bonding, which keeps it looking its best for longer. Maintenance and polishing are charged separately.

| Lifespan | Typically around 5 to 7 years | Often 10 to 15 years or more |

Aftercare
Keeping your bonding looking its best
Maintenance appointments
Regular maintenance appointments polish away surface stains and refresh your bonding, so it stays smooth and bright. There’s an additional charge for maintenance and polishing.
Everyday care
Brush twice a day and clean between your teeth, just as you would with natural teeth, and keep up your hygiene visits.
Go easy on hard things
Avoid biting nails, pens or very hard foods with your bonded teeth, as composite can chip under heavy force.
If you grind
If you grind or clench your teeth, a night guard protects your bonding while you sleep.

Questions
Composite bonding FAQs
How much does composite bonding cost?
Edge bonding is from £339 per tooth, and composite veneers are from £395 per tooth. PearlyPlan members save 10%. A smile makeover consultation is £50, put towards your treatment.
What’s the difference between edge bonding and composite veneers?
Edge bonding adds composite to part of a tooth, such as a chipped edge or a gap. Composite veneers cover the whole front surface, for bigger changes to shape and colour.
Does composite bonding involve drilling?
Usually only a little. We may need to lightly shape the tooth so the composite bonds well and looks natural, but it’s far less than for porcelain veneers, and we always explain what’s needed first.
Does it hurt?
Most patients don’t need an injection, as preparation is minimal. If you’d be more comfortable with local anaesthetic, just ask.
How long does composite bonding last?
Typically around 5 to 7 years, and it’s easy to repair or refresh. Maintenance appointments and good care help it last.
Can I see what it will look like first?
Depending on your case, yes. We offer digital smile design and mock-ups, so you can see and approve your new smile before we start.
Can I whiten my teeth after bonding?
Whitening won’t change the colour of composite, so we recommend whitening first and matching your bonding to your new shade.
Does bonding stain?
Composite can pick up stains from coffee, tea, red wine or smoking over time. Maintenance appointments (an additional charge) polish it back to its best.
Can bonding fix crooked teeth?
Bonding can make slightly uneven teeth look straighter, but it doesn’t move them. For crooked or crowded teeth, Invisalign first often gives a better, longer-lasting result.
Who does the bonding?
All our dentists, plus our dental therapist Chantel Jaffer, who has a special interest in composite bonding.
Composite bonding or porcelain veneers?
Composite is quicker, needs very little preparation and costs less; porcelain lasts longer and resists staining. We’ll help you choose what suits your teeth and goals.
