How it works

Pay and claim, step by step

We don’t bill insurers directly. Instead, you pay us and your insurer pays you back, so you can use your cover here whichever insurer you’re with.

  1. Check your cover

Your policy documents or your insurer’s app will show what’s covered, any annual limits and whether you need approval before treatment.

  2. Book and pay a deposit

We take a deposit when you book each appointment. For larger treatment we can give you a written plan with costs first, for your insurer to approve.

  3. Pay the balance

The balance is due when your treatment is complete, and you’ll get an itemised receipt showing exactly what was done.

  4. Claim it back

Send your receipt and claim form to your insurer. We complete and sign the practice section for you, and your insurer reimburses you directly.

What’s usually covered

What dental insurance can pay for

Every policy is different, so always check yours. As a guide:

Routine care

Check-ups, X-rays and hygiene appointments are covered by most policies and health cash plans, usually up to an annual limit.

Treatment

Fillings, crowns, root canal treatment and extractions are often covered in part, depending on your level of cover.

Emergencies

Many policies include emergency appointments, sometimes with a separate limit.

Orthodontics and Invisalign

Many plans include orthodontic cover, which can pay towards Invisalign for adults, teenagers and children.

Bonding and veneers

Some plans pay for composite bonding or veneers, depending on the circumstances, such as repairing a chipped or broken tooth.

Not sure what yours covers?

Whitening is almost never covered, but most other treatment depends on your plan. Send it to us and we’ll check it for you.

Know what you’ll pay before you commit

Send us your insurance plan and the treatment you’re interested in, whether you’re already a patient or thinking of joining us. We’ll go through your policy and set out what it would cover and what you’d pay yourself, free of charge.

For larger treatment we can also plan it around your policy year, spreading appointments across two years so you can use two years of annual limits instead of one.

Email your policy details to fulham@pearlywhiteslondon.com, or bring them to your appointment.

Help with your claim

We’ll give you everything your insurer asks for

After each visit you’ll get an itemised receipt listing the treatment you had and what you paid, which is what insurers need to process a claim.

If your insurer uses a claim form, bring or email it to us and your dentist will complete and sign the practice section. For larger treatment, we’ll write up a treatment plan with costs that you can send to your insurer for approval before you go ahead.

You can also spread the cost with Tabeo finance, or use your PearlyPlan membership discounts and benefits, and still claim back from your insurer.

Our fees are listed on our dental fees page, so you can check them against your cover before you book.

Questions

Dental insurance FAQs

Which dental insurers do you accept?

We work with all the major UK dental insurers and health cash plans, including Bupa, AXA Health, Vitality, Aviva, Simplyhealth, Unum, WPA, Westfield Health, Health Shield, Benenden Health, Medicash, Paycare, BHSF, Sovereign Health Care and HSF Health Plan. Because we work on a pay and claim basis, you can use cover from almost any insurer.

Do you bill my insurer directly?

No. We work on a pay and claim basis: you pay us, then claim the cost back from your insurer, who reimburses you directly.

When do I pay?

We take a deposit when you book each appointment, and the balance is due when your treatment is complete.

Will you fill in my claim form?

Yes. Your dentist will complete and sign the practice section of your insurer’s claim form, and you’ll get an itemised receipt after every visit.

Can you help me get treatment approved first?

Yes. For larger treatment we can give you a written treatment plan with costs, which you can send to your insurer for pre-authorisation before you go ahead.

Is Invisalign covered by dental insurance?

Often, yes. Many plans include orthodontic cover, which can pay towards Invisalign. Send us your plan and we’ll tell you what yours would cover and what you’d pay yourself.

Are composite bonding and veneers covered?

Sometimes. Some plans pay for bonding or veneers depending on the circumstances, for example to repair a chipped or broken tooth. Teeth whitening is almost never covered.

Can you tell me what my insurance would cover before I book?

Yes. Send us your insurance plan and the treatment you’re interested in, and we’ll put together a free, tailored review of what your plan would cover and what you’d pay yourself. You don’t need to be a patient yet.

Can you plan treatment around my policy year?

Yes. For larger treatment we can phase appointments around your policy year, so you can use your annual limits from more than one year.

Can I use finance or PearlyPlan as well as my insurance?

Yes. You can spread the cost with Tabeo finance, or use your PearlyPlan membership discounts and benefits, and still claim back from your insurer.

My insurance is through work. Does that change anything?

No. Employer dental plans from insurers like Bupa, AXA Health and Vitality work the same way: you pay us and claim the cost back.
