Minimally Invasive Dentistry

Your natural teeth are irreplaceable. So the way Dr Lia and our dentists practise is simple: find problems early, and keep as much of your own tooth as possible.

A calm corner of the Pearly Whites practice

Every time a tooth is drilled, some healthy tooth is lost for good. Fillings and crowns don’t last forever, and each time one is replaced it tends to be a little larger than the last, until a tooth that started with a small cavity needs a crown, a root canal or more.

Minimally invasive dentistry is about breaking that cycle, by treating problems as early and as gently as we can.

The gentlest treatment is the one you get before a problem grows. At your check-up, AI analysis of your X-rays with Overjet highlights early decay, including between the teeth, where you can’t see or feel it. We take X-rays when they’re clinically needed.

Healthy gums matter just as much. Our hygienists use Guided Biofilm Therapy, a gentler and more thorough clean, to help stop problems starting in the first place.

When a tooth does need treatment, we choose the most conservative option that will last. A few examples:

Early decay without a drill. Curodont Repair can help the enamel rebuild itself in suitable cases, with no drilling and no injections. ICON fades white spots by filling the weakened enamel from within, again with no drilling.

Only the decay removed. White fillings bond to the tooth, so we only need to remove the decay, not healthy tooth to hold a filling in place.

Keeping the nerve alive. For deep decay close to the nerve, Biodentine helps the tooth protect and repair itself, which can mean avoiding root canal treatment altogether.

Onlays before crowns. When a tooth is weakened, an onlay can protect it while keeping far more of the tooth than a crown would.

Cosmetic work, conservatively. Composite bonding needs only minimal preparation, and where we can we straighten teeth with Invisalign first, so less needs changing afterwards.

More of your own teeth, for longer, and often simpler, more comfortable treatment along the way. We’ll always explain your options and tell you honestly which will last best, and you decide.
